The iPhone 8 and iPhone X have just arrived but we already have many rumors about the 2019 iPhone, which may be called the iPhone 11. We round up all the rumors about the new iPhones expected to launch in autumn next year.
The iPhone 11 is rumored to have a bezel-free design, Face ID camera, and no Home button, just like the iPhone X. A report from Nikkei suggests that there will be two OLED phones in autumn 2018. The site also claims that there will also be a single LCD phone, which might have a metal back with no wireless charging feature. The site also adds that the 2018 iPhone will be available in several colors.
What about the screen sizes? Recent rumors suggest that there will be three new screen sizes for Apple’s upcoming iPhones, including the biggest screen on an iPhone yet. According to The Bell via The Investor, a quote from anonymous industry sources said that Apple and Samsung had signed a deal for the supply of 5.28 inch and 6.46 inch sized OLED panels for the 2018 iPhones. The deal was claimed in May this year.
From here, we can expect to see the 6.46 inch iPhone 11 Plus as the successor of the 5.5 inches iPhone 8 Plus. We can also expect to see the successor of the 5.8 inch iPhone X, which might be called the iPhone X Plus with a 6.46-inch display. As for the iPhone 11, we can expect to see a 5.28-inch display.
Meanwhile, Ming-Chi Kuo predicted there will be three new iPhone models; a 6.5 inch, 6.1 inches, and a 5.8-inch model. He also predicted that two models will have an OLED display and one model will have an LCD-TFT display with lower price and lower resolution. Here’s what he said “Two new OLED models target high-end market; new TFT-LCD model aims at low-end & midrange markets: We believe the major hardware difference in the two new OLED models is size, in a bid to satisfy various needs of the high-end market. The new TFT-LCD model will differ significantly from the OLED models in hardware and design specs (for instance, the PPI will be lower). The primary selling points of the TFT-LCD model may be the innovative user experience of an integrated full-screen design and 3D sensing with a lower price tag (we expect it will likely be US$649-749).”
The iPhone 11 is predicted to feature Face ID just like the iPhone X. KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that Apple will expand its new Face ID facial recognition tech to all new iPhones released next year. He also warned that Apple’s plans are likely to depend on how favorably Face ID is received.
Apple is reported to explore the possibility of integrating the Touch ID fingerprint scanner into the display of a smartphone or tablet. Apple has filed a patent describing a Touch ID display.
The iPhone 11 is also reported to feature Gigabit LTE just like the Galaxy Note 8, which promises download speeds of up to 1000 megabits per second.
Will the iPhone 11 feature wireless charging? Of course, we expect to see this feature on all 2018 iPhone models. However, we might get much better wireless charging feature next year as Apple is reported to work on longer-range wireless charging. It means you don’t have to physically place the device on a charging mat, as the long-range wireless charging could be available at a distance of about one meter using near-field magnetic resonance.
The iPhone 11 is reported to have battery cells from LG to manufacture. The iPhone is also rumored to have Apple Pencil compatibility. As for the camera, the iPhone 11 is expected to have a rear-facing 3D scanner for Augmented Reality.
According to a report from Bloomberg, 2019’s iPhone will have a 3D scanner on its rear sensor array, which is believed to be used primarily for augmented reality applications. Apple is also predicted to improve the camera capabilities of the iPhone 11.
So, when is the iPhone 11 out? Apple has a long and consistent history of iPhone releases making it pretty easy to predict the iPhone 11 release date. The iPhone 8 was announced on September 12 and was released on Friday, September 22. The iPhone 7 was announced on September 7 and was released on Friday, September 16. So, we can expect to see Apple announce the iPhone 11 early in September 2019. The iPhone 11 release date is predicted on Friday, September 21, 2019.
